Wedding Jewellery

The traditional wedding ring is made of yellow gold and in the UK is traditionally worn on the left ring finger. In some cases yellow gold has been replaced by silver, white gold or platinum, depending on taste and budget. There are a series of rings associated with the tradition of marriage beginning with the engagement ring, then wedding ring and finally the eternity ring which is traditionally given after the birth of the first child and represents the eternal love within the union. The engraving of the rings with the name of each partner was formerly a European tradition lending extra significance when the rings were passed down family lines.

Rings are exchanged during the ceremony to signify the union of matrimony and fidelity, and this is one of the most important and symbolic parts of the service. The best man has the responsibility for holding the rings until the moment they are exchanged, although this can also be carried out by a ring bearer or page boy.

It is extremely important to size a ring correctly and Aberdeen has many experienced jewellers. Heat and cold can affect the size, but any jeweller will have the correct sizing equipment and will ensure that you are fitted accurately and therefore that the exchange of rings during the ceremony proceeds smoothly.

Timescales for buying the wedding bands need not be long, unless of course you are having a bespoke ring made to your exact specifications. It will then require longer for alterations and adjustments to be made.

Aberdeen Wedding features a selection of the city’s premier jewellers who will supply or make you rings that will not only look beautiful but hold special significance for ever.
