Particularly with traditional church weddings, the music follows a fairly set format. Beginning with the Prelude, this is the music to which the guests enter the church and wait for the bride’s arrival. The bride walks up the aisle to the Processional and finally the bride and groom leave the church to the Recessional. During the ceremony hymns will be sung and these can be a mixture of ancient and modern, and the inclusion of a choir singing during the signing of the register is worth considering.
After the ceremony whilst the bridal party are having photographs taken you may decide that music is appropriate for the drinks reception prior to the meal. A harpist or string quartet, or perhaps a pianist will provide ambient background music whilst your guests circulate and socialise. Alternatively you may wish to have an entertainer, for example a magician or juggler, moving between guests.
Music and entertainment after the meal is an entirely personal decision for the bride and groom, but you may wish to consider the guests you are inviting, their age ranges and what they will enjoy.
With a DJ you will be in complete control of the music played and this is often a cost effective option. Your choice of band will depend upon the music they play and you may or may not have input into their repertoire.
