Aberdeen is located on the east coast of Scotland and is the countrys third largest city. It is sometimes referred to as the Granite City due to its buildings sparkling with grey granite, a locally quarried stone, which was used in the building process until the mid 20th century.

The city has an interesting and sometimes troubled history. Under English control throughout the Wars of Scottish Independence, Robert the Bruce destroyed Aberdeen Castle, forced out the English and restored the city to its Scottish inhabitants. Aberdeen continued to be fought over throughout the 17th century until the bubonic plague wiped out 25% of the city’s population.

Today, Aberdeen is often known as the oil capital of Europe with large North Sea oil deposits being located off-shore and the world’s second largest heliport servicing the nearby oil rigs.

Planning a wedding involves months of preparations and organisation and in order to make the day work perfectly many factors must be taken into consideration. From the booking of the venue down to table plans and menus each aspect of the day has its own ideal timeframe.

Choosing the correct wedding services provider is essential and moreover, with all of the day’s component parts working together, it is important that each aspect of the day considered carefully.

Should you choose to use a wedding planner, of which we feature some of Aberdeen's best, then the pre-planning and on the day smooth running of the event will be taken care of for you. If however, you are organising your own wedding then we include a selection of Aberdeen’s premier service providers for each stage of the process, from the area’s top venues down to booking the perfect honeymoon.
  • Wedding Venue - The choice of wedding venue is one of the first and most important decisions you will make. Whether you decide on a traditional or modern venue it should be booked a year in advance where possible. Flexibility on dates is advisable to avoid disappointment, especially at peak times of the year.
  • Reception Venue - Whether or not you choose to hold the ceremony and reception in the same venue, this should be booked next. The number of guests you wish to invite is a factor at this stage as well as other points such as transport arrangements.
  • Wedding Dress - Whether the bride’s dress is hired or made especially for the day, enough time should be built in for last minute alterations. Bridesmaids’ dresses and pageboy outfits should be considered at the same time.
  • Suit Hire - Outfits for the groom’s party often need careful co-ordination and a 3 month timeframe for this is usually sufficient. The party may consist of the groom, best man, ushers, father of the groom and perhaps father of the bride, and you may wish to have matching suits and or accessories.
  • Beauty & Beauticians - The run up to you wedding is the perfect time for pampering and indulging in extra beauty treatments. Hair, nails and make-up are important aspects for the bride on her wedding day and we feature some of Aberdeen’s top salons.
  • Wedding Cars & Carriages - Transport to and from the wedding is just the tip of the iceberg on your wedding day, but one that should be organised well in advance. You may wish to transport guest from the ceremony to the reception, or perhaps even from airports and train stations to the venue.
  • Wedding Jewellery - Wedding bands should be purchased around 4 weeks in advance to allow for any sizing alterations, should they be necessary. Of course if you are having a ring made this will take longer. For many couples this is one of the most enjoyable and least stressful elements of the wedding process.
  • Photography & Video - The choice of photographer is not necessarily a simple one, and good photographers are booked well in advance – as much as 6 to 9 months. Each photographer has his or her own style which should fit with your expectations, and a face to face meeting is important prior to booking to discuss requirements and see a portfolio.
  • Wedding Flowers - The wedding flowers are integral to every part of the day from the bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets, buttonholes for the groom’s party and also for dressing the venues. Flowers can make a bold statement on the day or merely provide a subtle backdrop, but whichever you choose it is important to be happy with your choice of flowers and florist.
  • Catering - The style of your wedding may reflect your choice of catering, for example a more informal day may lend itself to a buffet style meal, whilst a more traditional wedding sets the scene for a sit down wedding breakfast. It is important to choose the food and caterer that suit your requirements best, and book these well in advance.
  • Marquee Hire - Hiring a marquee is an excellent solution for a garden or perhaps a hotel lawn. It provides shelter from the elements for a summer or winter wedding, and Aberdeen has a large choice of marquee suppliers to suit any location and budget.
  • Music & Entertainment - Music can be an important part of any wedding from the ceremony through to the reception. Whether you choose to have a DJ or live band, or perhaps magicians and fire eaters to entertain your guests, Aberdeen has an array of entertainment to suit all age groups and budgets.
  • Wedding Planning - Hiring a wedding planner can be a cost effective solution to organising a wedding. With all the stress taken out of the planning process, and deadlines taken care of, the bridal couple are left to enjoy the months leading up to the big day.
Aberdeen Wedding Services brings you a comprehensive list of the top Aberdeen Wedding Service providers for each part of the wedding process, helping you, step by step, to plan your perfect wedding.
